The day was cloudy & it was hard to get the colors/exposure I wanted. I was not pleased with or without the flash. I chose the entry with "thumbnail WOW factor"...turns out, the flash wasn't they way to go. The non-flash entry may have faired better.
Thanks for your valuable input. Please see the non-flash version and comment if you care to.

Zap228 ~ I tried a number of settings this 'non-macro' shot produced much more focus.

mffnqueen ~ the rest of the backgrounds available were worse..

scalvert ~ Mmmm... save 1 berry 4 me! I put some on the one I'm saving for you! It's ready to ship...

Jesuispeure ~ I did, see above.

labuda ... you won't die by then ~ I'm saving them for Shannon Ha Ha

Maverick ~ Yes! Well it's time that I got that slave working and rig up a bounce flash. The cameras flash was not up to the task.

judibrenstein ~ I was using both

richterrell ~ Yeah

jaimeegrl ~ was trying for both...

agrimace no flash ~ Well that seems to sum it up.

the on camera flash makes it look to much like a snap shot

To much flash. It's also out of focus just a bit so try it in macro next time

the shadow in the background is rather distracting.. perhaps softer light or a different flash angle (from the side, maybe) would help :)

Mmmm... save 1 berry 4 me! Great color and DOF. Perhaps a tighter crop and a spritz of water? The voters tend to favor water beads.

I think the flash may have blown out the lighting on this one. Next time you might want to try natural light and a tripod for more depth.

take the middle one first. then the left one. hopefully the right one will rippen by the third week and that you won't die by then.

Nice idea. The lighting could be better. If it was a sunny day, maybe a shot from underneath the berries up towards the sky would look nice. Though blurred, the background still catches a lot of my attention here and gives an overall impression that the shot is under-exposed.

Harsh flash and shadows. Perhaps a tripod and natural light or moving away from the subject so the flash is not so harsh would help.

Kind of harsh flash (or other light)

Looks like direct flash was used. There is a bluish hue with is distracting. Along with the washout effect from the flash. Focus seems to be more on the leaf than the berry.
