Subject:
One of the old steam engines from the "Museum Stoomtram". The main station and storage is located in Hoorn. You can make trips to Medemblik with it in the spring/summer. They have several trains, all restored and maintained by volunteers. This one of the stronger locomotives. The strongest is the blue 'Leeghwater', but the most beautiful is 'Bello'.

I took this shot this Sunday while walking with the dogs. It rained pretty hard and this is shot from underneath my umbrella. That it has three carriages was just luck.
It is shot with the 210mm tele position, in ISO400 (low light, long zoom, moving subject), handheld. Unfortunately I couldn't get a more sideways view because that would need me to stand in a kind of creek. Most of the scenery behind me is industrial. :(

Photoshop work:
1) FM chroma noise reduction
2) Straightened the horizon
3) Cropped the four triangular edges off
4) Cloned out small blue sign at the left, not a major element, perhaps 10x10 pixels in this view.
5) Dodging & Burning on the faces and the smoke
6) Selected the shadows, new layer, screen mode, very low opacity, flattened
7) Resample to 640 wide
8) USM 170% .3 1trh on lightness channel in lab mode
9) RGB, Save for the web

Didn't mess with the colors, I had set a cloudy wb before shooting.

I gave it an 7, then after looking at it more, I gave it an 8. The guys head sticking out the window, the steam, and the sheep made it for me. The only thing I might have done is chop it a bit tighter on the right. Nice shot.

Very nice! I like the softness in the background!

If only the train was No. 3 as well :) The shot is good but I think some curves adjustments to brighten up the sky a bit would look good. Also maybe a less-centered composition would be more effective.

the 3 is not really the main subject of your shot... I'd say attention goes to the engines face...

The sharp angle conveys an impression of 1 train rather than 3 cars. Nice shot, though- it's a shame it was such a dreary day. Puffy white clouds on a deep blue sky would have really popped the color of the train. Just change the weather next time- OK? ;-)

I really like your antique-rustic tones here, and the point of view is subtle and effective.

Great train shot. The depth of field works nicely. Might suggest boosting the contrast and red channels slightly to give the shot more impact.

I think this might have been a bit better taken more from the side. Still I think it is a good photo.
