I went to a butterfly exhibit at the Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati with the hopes of getting something for this challenge. I was hoping for something more crisp and with a bit more wing detail, but I feel that this works to some degree as well.. I just hope the shallow DOF doesn't kill me too much! Also, thank you to jotaga, LMA128, and scooter97 for help in choosing my entry! =)

Greetings from the Criticque Club!

Initial impression: Like the POV, quite unusual but effective. In voting I would have given this a 6 or 7.

Technical: Love the comp because there is plenty of room for the butterfly to move into. However, though I personally like the use of shallow dof, and clearly some others do too, your score suffered because of the dof.

Artistic: The duotones work well, the pov is very interesting and different. For this site it is a daring shot because it is an unconventional shot of a butterfly. Pity there are at least a couple of voters who didn't appreciate a different approach.

Overall: As I have stated many times already on this site, you can either shoot to please the dpc crowd and get high scores, or you can shoot to please yourself and risk getting lower scores as a result. If what you love to shoot naturally also pleases the dpcers, you've got ribbons. Please keep shooting, and shoot for yourself.

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan
