 Doing some research, I discovered that every Catholic church in Socorro County, except the San Miguel Mission in the town of Socorro, was built by the people that lived in the towns rather than by the church itself. These are referred to as mission churches, and are scattered all up and down the Rio Grande, the big river that runs north and south in the center of the state of New Mexico. Many of them are still standing today, such as this one. I plan to get out to photograph the others nearby to include in this month's portfolio, so stay tuned!
