First challenge on the site so i thought i'd give the Still Life challenge a shot.

The book used had the title Peony in Love. It is a novel by Lisa See.
I found the book that had some relation to love from my friends bookshelf in his beach house in San Clemente and placed the ring inside so that the shadow casted would form a heart. Also i flipped to a page that had a title that had relation to love too so that the heart shadow would have some meaning as well.

Converted from RAW to .dng then saved as .jpg
Turned to black and white and the blacks were increased a slight bit as well.
Low f-stop as well for the depth of field and tried to focus in on the ring, the shadow and the title.

Any critique is welcome.

It's not really my interpretation of 'Still Life'

The heart formed by the shadow is almost too subtle - almost missed it. This shot is just a bit too much of nothing but a bit too much. I want to like it - nice concept, and well done. Perhaps a crop at the bottom of the heart shadow would get rid of a lot of the extra without taking away the soul of the shot.
