 Yesterday afternoon I was sipping coffee at Starbucks in B&N, flipping thru an Art magazine which had the results of a flower painting contest. All the finalists had a blurb about their process, which was very interesting reading. Some of the painters use photographs for documentary information about their subject. One painter talked about how the camera flattens contrast, and about how the experience of viewing a photograph differs from viewing the real thing & differs from viewing a painting. It seems you can't do very good work painting from a photo alone, you have to've been there. Artists seem to be much more accustomed to talking about their craft than photographers. The artist seems to recognize a difference between what is seen with the eyes & what is seen with the heart, while the photographer seem to me to be often dominated by the technology of the camera. Anyway, the magazine-reading seems to've sparked a little creative heat in my brain & this is the result.

Mmmmmmm delicious red - I don't see the soft focus at all- the edges are sharp & altogether a very pretty Rose :)

this is really beautiful, love the red color against the black bg, and that leaf only being kind of blending into the bg so it doesn't disturb the beauty of the rose, really well done
