I'm gonna guess that most will think this photo is "too busy". No worries for me tho - this was something that was part of my life this last week so I thought I'd submit it.

My MIL was diagnosed with Lung Cancer and COPD in Nov. '08. (The COPD, at least, is the result of her smoking for most of her life - and she's only in her 60's.) She spent the next several months going thru chemo and radiation and was a total trooper about it. With her amazing spirit and strength, she made it thru the treatments. Her tumor was reduced to a microscopic size and she was doing very well. Recently, she was working on weaning herself off of her oxygen and was getting back to running around with doing errands and socializing.

Then, three weeks ago she had a throat biopsy and for some strange reason, her breathing became worse after that. Since she was struggling too hard to breathe, she went to the hospital this past Monday (5/4). For almost an entire week, she was confined to this dull and boring room.

While she was in the hospital - she had to miss lunch with some dear friends, she could not go to the funeral of a relative, and she missed the opening night of her grandson's play. So this week, not only did she have to struggle with her breathing, she also had to endure some disappointment and heartbreak.

We were given a gift today tho, as she came home for Mother's Day. However, the breathing problem is still an issue, and it may be this way for the rest of her life. In a short period of time, she went from a vibrant and active woman to one who needs to carry an oxygen tank and is now tired out from walking less than half a block.

Ah.... the hospital floor. I love the use of black and white, the explicit detail. So much is sterile in a hospital (usually), but you've personalized it with her (much needed, apparently, lol!) slipper. As they say, and as you've so well yourself expressed, a picture says a thousand words.

There is so much to look at in this shot. It took me a while to figure it out.

More bed, and less curtain and wall space would have made a richer image. I like the tangled lead lines, but i want more of those rich tones, reflections and shadows off the bed itself.

I like the tones. However the photo seems really busy with the subject being hard to determine.
