A personal shot. I lost my wonderful horse last August. He was truly my best friend and I miss him every day. These are from my memory box - the bit I rode him in and hair from his tail. :(

we are left with memories
bittersweet
where smiles and love abide

the smell of him still lingers

Losing a treasured friend is heart wrenching. I love that you made a memory box. That's what's so great about the human heart. It never loses those feelings and we can hold onto them forever.
Great still life. I feel bad about your loss. It is a wonderful tribute to him. I live in horse country, and when I heard the news about the many horses that have been left on roads because their masters can't pay for them anymore, it tore my heart out.
