My cat Tiva getting ready to attack one of her mice. I had to spray some liquid catnip on the mouse to get her to stay on the chair and remain focused on the task at hand so dad could get the shot he wanted. ;-) I only had two real shots that were usable and this turned out to be the better of the two. She kept getting on the table to bite it. I was trying to hold her in place and use my wired remote at the same time. She wasn't very cooperative.

The shallower dof was intentional. I used a variety of masks, added some gaussian blur to help even out some movement on her part, sharpened the mouse, and got a darker reflection on the table. I shot and edited this in under an hour on Sunday evening.

I think a brighter looking, more detailed mouse is all you needed to get this image to at least a 5.7. I love it the way it is and I adore the dof but the mouse is too nondescript to have more of an impact..

I would have liked to see the cat in focus to be honest.

A real mouse and a deeper DOF would have gained 2 points from me. The idea is good, the execution not so much. An alternative would be to have the focus on the cat - that would improve it anbsent a real mouse, IMO. Hope that's helpful.

This is really nice. The composition is spot on. Even though I like it the way it is, I can't help thinking it would have scored higher if the cat rather than the mouse were in focus. good luck

Another interesting image - cats are always fun to photograph as they exhibit a lot of curiosity when confronted with something new or different. An image in which one might view negatively because of the DOF on the cat, but it can also be viewed as a positive as it does give the image some depth. This may have been a much better color image given the nature of the cat - the reflection shows off some different tonal quality on the cat's face that may have worked better in color. A different look might have been to take a more open aperature look to enhance the cat's quality of concentration. Still a good effort that falls just shy of being really effective in a technical and artistic sense.

Cute idea, though I feel the focus needed to be on the cat. jmho
