My idea was to take a light bulb and make a flower look like the filament. I took a clear light bulb, removed the filament, inserted a flower picked from my garden, then lit the flower with a flash light through the hole in the bottom of the light bulb. I also had a home made light tent with green tissue paper and a lamp lighting through the top. I tried many different shots with different flowers and lighting, but this was the only one that turned out alright. I had the hardest time trying to get the flower to stay where I wanted to. I used some clay in the bottom to hold it in place, but then it blocked the entrance for me to shine the light through, so I finally was able to get enough of a hole in the clay to allow the light through but still hold the flower in place.

I realized after I entered and reading the comments that my highlights are way too blown out. My first thought when I entered it was the blown out highlights helped show that my intention was for the flower to look like the light source. But after looking at it some more, I realize the highlights are way too blown out regardless. The one thing I dislike about this photo the most is the out of focus and dull base of the light bulb.

I had a lot of fun with this set up. Thank you everyone for your kind and very helpful comments!

Very nicely done. One of the best despite being blown out in the light..

I agree, things do tend to get a little lopsided.

I do like the lighting, but I kinda wish the highlights weren't blown out...

I started to comment that you should have toned down the blown highlights at the base of the flower, but the more I studied it in the context of the bulb - I think you got it right!
