Summer Milky way rising in Chesterville Maine. Did a similiar shot back in May '08 and it was legal then, we'll see if SC is in as good a mood :-) This is a composite of 5 5 minute exposures with a tracking device moving the camera with the rotation of the sky, "telescope" is a 10mm canon lens borrowed from a friend. I'm guessing the f/stop was around 3.0, although honestly, I didn't even look, that's what happens when you shoot at 3:00am ! The trees were provided with a single 2 minute exposure with the tracking device off.

Post mortem... ever enter a challenge with what you think is a great shot then come to work and look at it on a different monitor in absolute horror? That's what happened to me here, I did a rush job on the processing for this shot, but I could have done alot better... when I came in the next morning and looked at it (along with the terrible score) was mortified. Oh well... if I had more time then I would have cropped the image, rotated it to flatten the tree line and fixed the saturation... here's what I should've entered

I love the angle shown, with the trees just crossing the bottom left.

Thanks again for this! Sky sure don't look like that around here :( Im sure at one point it looked like that everywhere. Clever use of the trees btw, most would think this is deeper astrophotography without them.

Beautiful sky. Is that for real?
