Challenge: Trees II (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Nikon D40X
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II
Location: Boulder, CO
Date: Apr 28, 2009
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/125
Galleries: Nature, Birds
Date Uploaded: Apr 28, 2009

Taken in the mountains of Colorado above Boulder. I pulled off the side of the road and saw these three birds (vultures maybe) sitting in a dead tree and thought, "perfect tree shot!"

Only thing I regret is not having a better zoom than 55mm.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

Oh my, what a fantastic shot. Interesting and beautifully composed, where's just so much here for the viewer's eyes to wander over. I think the obligatory reduction in resolution kills this shot a bit - there's just so much there, I'd prefer to be able to admire it in its full res glory. Fascinating view, and a creative take on the challenge. The colourful busyness of the shot is probably what killed your score in the challenge, but it's also what makes this shot for me, so - meh, oh well, a score isn't always a good measure of the quality of the shot anyway...

Anyway, I look forward to exploring more of Colorado through your future challenge entries :)

There's actually FOUR vultures in the tree :-) I enjoyed the shot & gave it a good score.

my favorite of this challenge. I like that the close tree isn't too "apparent"

I love the composition and wouldn't change it except to maybe bring out the tree with the birds (perhaps by blurring slightly the background). Also wondering if a closer shot onto the birds/tree would have been more effective (but I would have had to play around with the shot to be sure)???

interesting colours and contrast in tree canopies - nie one.

A neat view, but the tree and birds (vultures?) in it get lost in the background of the homes below.

I love the incorporation of the vultures in this photo, and this view is just incredible.
