Working in Vegas this week, took a trip out to Hoover Dam and grabbed this off kilter version of the typical dam shot, at 12 mm.

This was a total shoehorn ... true, hydropower is green, but I don't really think a picture of a monstrous dam that created Lake Powell and held back the Colorado River just to serve Los Angeles' thirst for growth is really a great tribute to the environmental movement. SO for those of you who voted me down because you don't think this Dam is Green, I agree with you. For those who voted it down for any other reason .... you suck!

(just kidding, of course. :-P)

Oh right, my bad! (But the point about it not really being "Green" is still the same!)

How this pic came about: I was at a company retreat outside of Vegas. On the afternoon of 4/28, they packed some of us on a bus and sent us on a tour of the Hoover Dam. Of course I had my camera along. When I got back to the hotel a few hours before rollover, I checked the site, saw the Green challenge, and said, heh, something from the dam might fit. So I chimped my shots, picked one, edited it on my laptop and submitted. Had absolutely no intention to shoot for the challenge while I was out there.

Didn't even notice it was advanced editing, or I could have done more to hide the vignette caused by my too thick polarizer on my superwide.

It's Hoover Dam all right but it holds back Lake Mead, not Lake Powell. Lake Powell is held back by Glen Canyon Dam a bit further upstream. Killer perspective in this pic. Love the wide angle and congrats on the top 10!

Beautiful shot! I think the border takes away from the picture a little bit though.

Interesting. I like the power of the four contrasting colors and textures - concrete, rock, steel and water. The top right is a little distracting.

Niiiice. I can't find anything not to like in this picture. We drove across Hoover Dam a month ago but didn't have time (or a parking spot!) to stop and take pictures. I was so disappointed. This shot doesn't help because now I wish I'd taken it! :-)
