Last winter I got lost while running the trails and found this spooky looking tree. I wanted to come back and photograph it could never find it again. I finally found it just this week and just in time for this tree challenge. One of the sayings carved on the tree is “latet Anjguis in Herba” which when translated has three different meanings, one of them being “unforeseen danger”. Little did I know at the time that while I was photographing this tree, my car was being broken in to. I finished with my snaps, walked up to my car just in time to see these guys jumping into their get away car, and my theft horn was honking on my car. I immediately started to chase them on foot while trying to turn on my camera and flip off the lens cover so I could get a picture of the licence plate. Unfortunately I’m not a very good photographer yet and my photo was a blurry mess! So this “Haunted Tree” picture cost me a couple hundred dollars, a gps and my treasured little ipod. Ironically when I parked my car, it was under the sign that said don’t leave your valuables in your vehicle….

Do I leave the light spots or is that something I should have taken out?

I'm totally on board with the flare - you got a perfect starburst. My only suggestion would have been to boost the lighting just a tad on the tree trunk. It's slightly overpowered by the sun.

PS - things are replaceable.

Sorry about the break-in, and leave the light spots. I very much like them there.

What an interesting story to accompany your image!! Next time, put your valuables in the trunk so they're not visible. Sorry about your loss. Image came out really nice, you probably could've cloned out the light spots, no telling if it would have made any difference in the score.

I love this picture. To bad about your GPS. Karma I guess.

What a bummer of a story to go with such a beautiful photo. Kind of freaky tho that it was a little foreshadowing going on.

This was one of my faves. I think it is perfect the way it is - don't worry about the light spots!

Nice subject. The sun is a bit overwhelming though, IMO.
