I captured several cicadas in my back yard and put a fish hook through the thorax of each one attached to fishing line. I set up the camera and prefocused. I held up the fishing lines with the cicadas attached and jiggled them so the cicadas would try to fly away. I took several shots to get one I liked. Although the picture looks like a stop action of a single cicada, it is actually 3 cicadas in motion. I cropped the image and cloned out the fishing hooks and fishing line. Sharpened the image, enhanced the contrast and cleaned up the backround with Neat Image. Voila!

Did they die? This is an amazing capture. It'd be funny to see the start of a bird's beack coming in the top left of the frame.

Neat idea and well executed. One of the more original unusual viewpoints. Compositionally it would be better if there were no merger of the two upper insects.

Matter of taste, but I don't enjoy looking at insects -- but try to not score on that. The wings have a very nice silverly glint in them. I would have liked to have seen a different rotation maybe for the composition? With a really sharp focus, the lines may have had stronger impact for me.
