Hello Hans and * Greetings from the Critique Club *
One of the indicators of a succesful image is whether or not it invokes emotion for the viewer. As you probably noted from your comments - your image did so for most of the commenters.
It was a very original idea - and although your technical aspects (exposure, focus, composition) were very well done, it still didn't score very high.
The question to ask are "What could be done to make it move up in the rankings?"
I would suggest that you should do anything that would make it more "believable" - such as:
a) Add a medical touch - something that would make it look more "hospital like" - instead of the wooden background. Perhaps a miniature medical instrument - and a very sterile white background.
b) Perhaps a "father" banana looking on.
c) Mini receiving blanket in the scene.
You get the idea - just that little extra thing that may make a voter who normally spends a few seconds... look a little longer before hitting the "4" key!
Hope this helps - and congratulations on one of the most original ideas for bananas!

Original! How do you tell the sex of a banana anyway? Perfect expoyre - would proably work better on a dark backgrould without the wood grain. |

I'll never look at a banana the same again. Nice job. |

This is such a cool idea. I have no idea what you used for the newborn there...some sort of squash? But it's perfect. It has that slithery amniotic sac look to it which really completes the picture. Great clarity. Exposure seems a little hot on the brightest part of the banana. |
