POST: I came up with this idea about 2 1/2 hours before the deadline, sitting dejected in front of the TV after my first idea using the fruit fell short of the vision in my head (happens a lot). Shot setup - took the granny smith apple and cut out a wedge. I then took a sharp knife and cut the apple flesh just behind the skin about 1/4 inch deep. I then removed the rest of the apple to the same depth to create a recessed area. I then took an orange and cut a fairly thick slice, then removed the peel. Then cut off a sliver of orange slightly less than 1/4 inch thick with a sharp knife. The orange slice was actually not as large as the apple, so I had to take two slices and cut them approximately in half to fill the recess in the apple. I used a couple of toothpick pieces to "nail" the orange slice to the apple. They were hidden by the front of the apple.

For the slice lying on the table, I took part of the apple wedge and cut the peel from the flesh. I then took another peeled slice of the orange and used some quick dry epoxy glue to glue the apple peel to the orange slice.

Used a sheet of white paper for the seamless background.

Thanks for all of the great comments and votes (and the constructive criticism, which was very valid). :)

By the way, editing in the orange using post processing would not be allowed in Advanced editing either....

Nice take on the challenge. Clearly you took a lot of time to cut the fruit to deliver the 'not quite right' storyline. I guess some people thought you did this in photoshop and not in the kitchen!

Good work and congrats on the top 5 finish.

A lot of work went into the subject - but the lighting is to0 harsh and flat to do it justice.

This must of been tough to do with basic editing where did you get the Orapple?

How did you get the orange inside the apple?

A very clever and different look at the not quite right challenge - unigue and well composed combination of still life and odd humor. A top ten image if not a ribbon winner. Well done.

The setup is amazing. I can see your efforts and brain behind this setup. The effect that this lighting has created is not very appealing to me though. Because of some lost details on the apple and the flowers due to highlights.

I thought this was so brilliant...where do you come up with an idea like that! A 10 from me.

the flower arrangement ruined this scene. this could have been a huge winner!
