I was assisting Judi on a job. We were shooting amidst lots of smoke from the smoke machine, and I was holding a flash with the pocket wizard, trying to light the subject, and looked over and saw this shot. So I fired off a shot and hoped for the best.

A couple of people have questioned if this was posed, so I've decided to post my consecutive images, and let people decide for themselves.

The first image, the edge of the light was visible.

I moved slightly to the right and quickly reshot. (This is my entry image). I thought I had the shot, but wasn't sure, and couldn't really see my screen well enough to check. So I fired off a few more, just in case.

Photographer checking image on her camera.

Photographer moved out of 'pose' and continued to shoot.

....and then she stood up, completely messing with my 1/40 ss.

A couple of outtakes from the shoot.

I believe my entry fits the 'Candid' challenge in every way, as the photographer was not aware that I was shooting her. The light behind her was not part of the studio set up, it just happened to be a light at the location.

I am very pleased with my efforts in getting this image, particularly the hand held low shutter speed, with no flash. I know that some photographers could get that at a much slower speed, but for me, this is a good effort.

Many thanks for all the comments that have been made...and to the voters...I'm absolutely delighted that it's moved up from the 4 that it started on.

It's a great shot. I didn't appreciate that this was truly a candid. An oversight/bad assumption on my part. I can be such a dpc voter sometimes.

Real beautiful picture but the overall impression is that it is posed. It might not be but it certainly gives that impression.

Dramatic and impressive in an artistic sense if only because of the nature of the subject. The image needs to be viewed more than once to properly evaluate the dark and the details that lurk within - not an image that takes kindly to casual viewing. While not to the general taste, this is an amazing image in several respects. The dark photographer appears to be over sharpened but that may be artifact from the back lighting. A very impressive conversion, this was orignally rated an 8, but on review, has been rerated a 10 for it's innovative approach to the subject challenge in addition to it's technical and artistic success. While it might not place high, any reviewer who has been involved in photography more than a few years will recognise the technique used here to express an idea which was more than expertly executed. Well done.

Sweet shot, very atmospheric, the anonymity is superb and and yet her bodyshape and stillness suggests a deep concentration which i'm sure many 'togs can relate to. Fave from me!

Terrific capture, and would Ribbon from me. the lighting is obviously exceptional, but I like feeling like I'm part of an intimate photo shoot without actually being part of the process. Great work.
