I was visiting my brother this weekend who is working out of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He had to send an e-mail while we were out driving, so he pulled over since he had good reception. I took the opportunity to take some pictures of the landscape when I saw this old boot on a post.

I like the composition of this. The height of the boot, and the fence post create a nice balance of the elements. It feels a bit "narrow," but not incredibly so.
Technically, I like the tone of this and the exposure and focus is good. It appears oversharpened to me, and this is also causing an ever-so slight halo effect around the boot. Of course, it is a "texture" challenge, so maybe oversharpening is a good thing. :)
Overall, it is a nice shot, and *I* can see how it meets the challenge, but it does so subtlely, and doesn't scream TEXTURE as much as some of the others did.
A unique monotone image that demonstates the subject matter of the challenge in spectacular fashion with excellant DOF and color control. Both a technical and artistic success that more than adequately meets the challenge subject in particular with the color shades. A very worthy contender for top ten honors and a possible ribbon contender.
i like the composition, it's fun to look out. the processing is really nice too. looks like there might be a slight oversharpening halo around the boot? maybe that's what caused it, i'm not sure. it looks like it has a white outline. still, very nice.
