I shot this at my desk, using my computer monitor for a background. The tulip is in a glass, and I shot this with my 5D and Canon 24-70 f2.8L lens. My studio lights are at the studio (can you imagine?) so I had to figure out how to light this using my 580EX Flash. Since it was basic editing, I had to get it right. I made a big softbox on the 580EX using three sheets of white copy paper. I had to set up some cardboard to block the flash from hitting the screen and causing glare on the background image. I used an off camera cord and hand held the flash to the left. I shot an image 18 minutes before the challenge deadline, edited it in Photoshop and decided I didn't like the composition, and I didn't like some dark shadows/lines. I set up again, added some more white copy paper to the right as a reflector, changed composition, and shot again. I had 90 seconds to open it in RAW, crop, resize, sharpen, and save for web. That left me with a minute to upload! How will it do in the challenge? Well, the tulip is nice and sharp, there are lots of vibrant, warm colors, the horizon is mostly straight, and I used the rule of thirds horizontally and vertically while still overlapping the flower with the sun. I'm shooting for a 6.7...

Great colors

Very pleasing image. But the artificial background doesn't seem to work for a flora challenge, IMHO.

A composite image that is ineffective, manufactured and unnatural. As a political themed image it might work, but as a image of natural flora, it fails.

Some of you guys make it looks so easy. Do you know when you enter this that it will be hard to beat?

Alright so anyway...great shot, if not a little cocky with the skills you posess. Color-fantastic, composition-solid, mood-A+...is there one reason whatsoever I shouldn't vote this a 10?, not really, but I'm given ya an 8 till the end, and I'll see how ya stand up amongst the crowd. Great job.\

...bumping to 9.

Great looking flower, but forgive me if I say the background looks like a studio backdrop.

Pretty tulip, nice colour, sorry if I find the set-up a bit cheesy.

my attention is drawn mainly to the backdrop.
If there is a message or reminder about global warming in this image, it might be somewhat obscure...

Nifty idea. The shadow on the flower's left side (behind the leftmost petal) kind of distracts.
