 Tahquitz Rock (sometimes referred to as Lily Rock)has world class rock climbs.

"Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer, one of my favorite books. It's about catastrophic event on Mount Everest when eight climbers were killed and several others were stranded by a 'rogue storm'.
