This was the grandest house in town in its time. As the story goes, Mr. Munger's wife said the only way she would stay in Wichita, would be to have a grand house and so it was built. Inside though, there was only a kitchen and one big room for all people to sleep in. The upstairs was rented out and accessible by an outside staircase.
