I always seem to take a picture with "traditional" intent, getting a subject in focus, etc., but then end up being far more interested in the blurry background.

An interesting balance - the tiny delicate bird and the very sturdy, and somewhat looming nature of the trees, particularly those that are bokeh'd. Beautiful light - an all around gorgeous shot.

Wonderful blue in this! You're right about the background, it adds so much to a capture. In this case, the bright blue highlights and frames the bird very nicely. The blurred verticals also help frame the bird.

The blurry BG makes the Bird stand out even more, so you have the right idea. The Blue is an awesome shade too. Maybe just a little tighter crop would make the bird more of the focal point.
