I know, it's a crappy photo, but that's the reality of non-captive echidna shots. Echidnas roll themselves up when they are feeling threatened, so basically what you get is a prickly ball. Their other trick is to burrow into the ground or under any leaf litter. You hardly ever see them to begin with so it is pretty hard to get decent photos of them. The head end is on the right.
This was taken late afternoon when it was raining lightly ( and that doesn't happen often, these days )We saw him cross the road but by time we pulled up he was off it and very quickly tucked himself in.
Sharpen x 2, brightness/contrast, crop, border, resize, stw.
This was the first shot I got.

That's a crazy looking critter! Looks kind of like a large hedgehog.
