I have seen the Black Backed Gulls at the Jersey shore. Is this the same species? They do have an odd shaped beak. Very nicely captured Ter. |

Maybe it's his beak, but the automatically made me think of Scuttle from the Little Mermaid! Nice detail on the feathers. I wonder what it would look like with the background burned a bit darker to make the bird stand out some more |

I like the detail in the wings, and although less in the white head, the eye really "pops." |

These gulls look cool, don't they. I have some shots of them too and I didn't know what they are either. |

It is a Greater Black Backed Gull (Larus marinus)- and from the red on the beak it also looks like it has young to feed.
The red spot grows noticably larger and brighter when it has young. The youngsters then peck at it as a stimulous for the mother to regurgitate food for them.
