Thanks to the lovely wee Shona McWilliams for this shot on new years day (2nd actually) we celebrated Hogmanay a very Scottish kinda thing the Haggis was great but catching the damn thing took Andy and I a few hours, boy are they fast.

Due to sickness I have shot very little in January so lucky for me I had this set so I least I have something other than shots of the family pulling stupid faces.

This is one of the best done portraits in the challenge! It has got nice tones, wonderful framing, and great intimacy to it!

I don't know why it scores lower. A 10 from me (albeit post challenge)!

Regards,
Vikram

Great clarity and sharpness on the eye. Shallow DoF adds intrigue. 8

What a beautiful, natural portrait! Made with great judgement, restraint and skill, it will look just as good in 20 years, or in 100 years, as it looks now. It's an enduring photograph of a lovely woman. She's a 10 and so is your photograph ... 10. And also awarded the Order of the Thumb:

P.S. Before anyone is able to post one of those ghastly "pimped" caricatures that so often pass as portraits here, they should have to take a long look at this. Some of the models might learn a thing or two from it as well.

Very nice job on the lighting and I really like the pose. B&W works well for this.

good focus on the eyes and the lips come out well also; the position of her face in the image is a little uncomfortable to me...perhaps more to the left would be more appealing

I'm thinking too shallow of a DOF. just my .02 though...
