January Landscape image for the Landscape a Month side challenge 2009 Landscape a Month

Shot while snowshoeing in the woods behind our place in Vermont during a snow storm. This stream comes off the mountain and provides a great little ravine to hike.

Processing: Converted RAW to JPEG after exposure adjustment, vibrancy. Hue/Saturation and noise ninja post processing, resize for web, add border.

Very natural setting and nicely framed. This would make a great calendar photo for January.

I somehow missed this shot, Peter. Sorry but hopefully better late than...
I do prefer this shot to the alternate. It is a somewhat busy photo, but cropping would not add any interest but take away from the scene. I like frames, in general, but this is a different white from the blue tinted snow: perhaps a black border?

Hi Peter, I have no problem with the crossed trees. Nice crop so the top edge of the upper tree comes from the corner. What I really like is the almost duo-tone appearance even though it's a full color shot. Nice details and fine post processing to bring out a balance of shadows and highlights. Good choice of border too.

gosh, I shot so many of these last year...one I slid down the hill, slammed my cam into a tree (yay IV filter!) and then splashed my foot into the water, which promptly moved into my boot...
slosh slosh

hope your experience was nowhere near as exciting....

I find that my eye is being blocked by the two fallen trees. I want to follow the line from the pool, up the stream and into the woods, but then I come up against those to tree stumps.
To me, the processing is perfect. I love the two-tone brown and white colouring and sharpness is good.

boy this is intimidating to be the first one to leave a comment for you!!...eish...

really like the shot as I now live in the south and really do miss the fluffy snow and ice stuff (believe it or not), but 2 things...the ice on the front left corner is distracting...kind of a blurry, blown out look, I look at the trees then my eye gets pulled back to that spot...the 2nd is could the browns be "richened up" a bit? Curves (like I need to tell you about curves!!) but overall I really like the picture...
