 Taken at Trona Pinnacles (used as a set for the remake of Planet of the Apes apparently). It has all the ambiance of a moonscape (yes I know the Moon doesn't have clouds!) so it seemed a natural backdrop to imply silence. I originally called it 'Moon' but it actually doesn't need a title, so I tried to submit without one and couldn't; so it's now 'Trona 1'.

I went for a centred composition bacause I like the balance of the background either side of the subject, and I think it makes it stronger than offset.

And I like the border, it seems to add something.

Now at 2000ft above sea level, it was once a shallow sea bed and there are still signs of coral around. Worth a visit if you're ever near Trona/Ridgecrest.

I don't think it'll do very well, but this is one of my photos designed to please me rather than just chasing votes (guestimate 5.4-5.5)

This is cool, I really like the composition and tones. And, unlike a lot of the shots with a prominent landscapes, I really get the feel of silence. I look at this and I don't hear anything. Great job!

Powerful image although I would have preferred the figure of the man to have been slightly off-center. Also that rock right up against his leg looks a bit out of place in that position. The image conveys a strong feeling of silence and desolateness. 7
