 This was a day trip to Crater Lake (the deepest lake in the US) with my son and daughter who I had to pull in a sled to get the shots I wanted. =-) Crater Lake is located about 60 miles North of Klamath Falls, OR. Wizard island is one of the main features in this shot.

Tone Curve adjustment
Grey scale adjustments
Added slight vignette

Photoshop CS4:
Remove dust artifacts
Slight exposure adjustment on sky
Noise reduction on water and sky
Slight exposure contrast adjustment
Bright/contrast adjustment on sky
Convert for web
Sharpen

It doesn't hurt you that Crater Lake is one of my favorite places. If you've never driven the rim at sunset, it is well worth doing - though probably not a winter time activity. The photo is a bit dark, a bit more of stark white vs. darker areas would be closer to Adams' style.
