This is my brother ... I did a LOT more processing than last week ... my goal for this side challenge is to really learn PS and how to make a great looking portrait ... I've got 50 more shots at it this year, hopefully we'll see some improvement from week to week ..

I know this still has some issues but I'd love to hear suggestions on how to make it better! I totally struggle with the burning of the edges of the iris to make them pop ... every time I try they don't look natural to me

This is a well done portrait and the eyes didn't stand out as having any issues. What caught my attention was the darker areas around the eyes caused by the hat or lighting perhaps, and it's not really that bad at all. For eyes, I take a white brush in softlight, reduce % way down and brighten them up with several passes. I enhance (or bring back) color by brightening with a the same white brush (only if needed) and then using a colored brush in color mode. I'll then take a black brush in soft light and then enhance the black around them just a bit.

So natural...I could almost touch his skin. Terrific.

I love this portrait. I almost feel I know your brother after looking at it. Sporty type, honest, dependable and a good to the core type of guy. Just a guess of course :)

All the technical aspects of the photography has already been described by other commenters. Great job!!

The eyes immediately caught my attention- very nice although I agree that they somehow do seem sliiiightly out of place - right eye iris edge is a little hard for me too. Maybe also because there are such nice other textures just crying to be taken advantage of? Maybe the light is a little too open and flattens those nice textures - could be a bit more dramatic?

I like the composition of this and you really nailed the focus! I'm not a portrait photog nor a photoshop wizard, but I'd say to maybe try to do a bit less with the eyes in this one. Perhaps just a bit of dodging to brighten them. The edges do look a bit unnatural but only if you're looking for that (which I did, since you mentioned it.)

Great detail. I noticed the eye as well, more on the right eye. Seems like the edge of the iris is a tad too hard.

Great shot! The expression and lighting are first rate. The eyes are good, but maybe a little over the top. They don't look natural when compared to the rest of the face. Too sharp maybe?

PAW - I really like this portrait. Good composition and expression. The shine on the nose and shadows indicate somewhat harsh lighting. Try diffusing or bouncing the flash. nova mentioned Scott Kelby's Photoshop CS2 book. I had his CS3 book in my hand today at Costco, but instead chose the Adobe written CS3 book with CD and on-line access. Maybe I made a mistake because the Kelby book looked really good. Maybe I'll spring for another $30 and get it also.

Sharp! Nice! Love your composition and even lighting. Those eyes took some work, I bet!

I think this is a great shot you might want to take some shine off the nose

I think you did a real nice job on the post processing. I don't remember if you've said which version of Photoshop you are using, but I highly recommend the Scott Kelby book "the photoshop CS2 book for digital photographers". It has a lot of tips and pointers for retouching portraits.

Good portrait, nice and sharp, so different from the previous one. I'm not very familiar with making portraits, but overall it looks somewhat flat. Light seems to come from the front, makes it less exciting.
