Please either google "Leonard Knight" or "Salvation Mountain" for the full story, or go to the web site. Leonard was led by God to create a manifestation of God's love. Like John the Baptist he did it in the desert. Leonard is always cheerful and happy to give you a tour of Salvation Mountain. I spent a day in the area January 2008 and plan to go again by the time you read this. The title is an attempt to give you an early indication of who he really is. The lighter area over his right shoulder is actually a painted part of his property.

My settings were really bad. I should have reduced the ISO to 100 or 200, but I had just come out from taking pictures inside the dark "hogan" museum.

Change to auto-WB and straighten in Camera Raw.
Import to Photoshop CS3 and crop, resize.
Topaz Adjust "Clarity" preset increasing sharpness.
Back to PS, adjust brightness, contrast.
Select sky and increase blue and cyan saturation and sharpen.
Select face and USM.
Spot heal tiny spot to left of cheek.
Reduced overall saturation by about 70% to make it more suitable as an old, wrinkled person, but I don't like total B&W so I left some color in it.
Selected and darkened sky that blended in too much with his hair.
Used blur tool to clean up sharp edge of last selection edit.
Re-edited selecting and reducing brightness of background and increasing brightness of Leonard.
Color version of the same.

He has an infectious smile. I'm not sure about the processing though.

Lovely portrait, not sure about the colouring - seems neither one way or the other :)

Fascinating! Thanks for putting the web address. I checked it out and was amazed. I'd never heard of Leonard Knight or his work before. I love the message -- and I LOVE that photo of him with the cat sitting beside him. Oh, and this one is a great tribute to him too! Hat's off to ya :)

a great face - the partial desaturation really highlights the character
