I have lived within an hour of this place all of my life. Saturday was the first time I had ever taken the time to go see. It is located just outside of Hendersonville, NC in Flat Rock. It is a National Historic Site, and it is kinda neat to walk around (or up, as the case is most of the time) where a famous writer lived. This shot was taken on the path leading up to the main house. There is also a goat barn and you can take a guided tour of the house if you wish.

Post processing -- cropped, selected the post thingy, lightened it (screen, I think), got rid of an annoying limb (of the tree, not mine), resized, saturated a bit (I think), and compressed for submission.

If the house is the subject of the photo as suggested by the title, it and not the frame surrounding it, should be in focus, IMHO.

I love the different layers of this shot.

The focus seems to be on a very dark wooden post. I would light up the post more if that's where you are going to focus your photo. The house in the background is very bright. You can try shooting with a faster shutter speed and putting the flash on a low setting to light the post a bit.

To imporve this I'd like to see a UV filter so the house looks less blown out that along with shooting above the barbed wire so that it's not cutting the shot in half.
The ivy post alone is a good shot in the shade.

House is out of focus. If you wanted both the fence and the house to be in focus you needed to use a smaller aperture like f/16 or higher.

i like the perspective and the composition. nice work.

The house is a bit out of focus and with house included in the title it seems as though it should be the main focus, thats just my opinion though.

OK, your title is "Carl Sandburg House" yet your primary focus is on the grapevine/ivy/plant. Try reversing the focus point or changing the title. Ignoring the title altogether, the house is overexposed and the plant is underexposed slightly. The leaves are in focus, however.

The composition is good. Unfortunately, the house is tilted and the focus draw attention to the plant and the fence in the foreground wich, according to your title is not the subject of you image. (5)

Since this is his house, I'd hope to see more detail on the house. The foreground, however, is well done.

I think I like the focus on the wire rather than the house; but wish you had shot under different light, when the shadows were not as harsh.

I gave this a 5. I felt it was a nice composition but it just didn't wow me. It seems a bit bland. A scene like this would have been great if the fencepost had some flowers winding around the ivy or if there were some flowers in the meadow in the background (I realize this isn't something you can control --- I just mean that a bit of color would have added more interest to this scene).

To me, if the house is the subject, it needs better focus and lighting. If the subject is the fence/ivy with the house as a backdrop, this is a very good picture.

looks a little blurry otherwise a good shot

interesting depth of field.....I like it. This depth of field to me adds an element of emotion to the photo...rather than just taking a photo of the house which would have been stark and predicitable....
