At a loss for what to do for this week, especially since the weather has been gray and gloomy, I took the D60 on a walk to the park. I found a bunch of Bird of Paradise in front of the swimming pool, took a single handheld shot, and fell in love with it when I looked at it at home. The next day I went back in the rain with better equipment.

I'd like to go back and work on getting more DOF on the flower, without showing so much detail on the background.

post processing...nothing really. Rotate, crop, levels.

Beautiful colored flower. I like the drops on the red. Perhaps it could use just a little more contrast.

Lovely colors and detail. I like how the lines lead to a point of convergence. As far as the DOF, you can probably stop down a bit, but that may not be enough. You can also back up but then you may not be close enough to get the detail. If you do get the flower in focus but also the background, you'll need to blur it. If you need help just shout out in the thread.

I love these blooms - usually you see shots further out showing the whole thing, so this is a nice change, focusing on the details. The softness of the color here is quite lovely.

Nice punchy colors! Since we are under three feet of snow right now that yellow really sings to me! Nice depth of field and tons.
cheers,

The technical question about the DOF is probably out of my league, but I'd just try a bunch of different bracketed exposures and see what worked best. I think this is nice, but more blur on the background would be good.

There's such an interesting array of colors, textures, lines and shapes. I can see why you fell in love with it. I look forward to seeing what you come up with when you change your settings. It's amazing how a completely different look is achieves, isn't it.

Very pretty colors, and the rain drops look so lovely on the petals.

Magnificent flowers, aren't they? According to what you're saying about trying again for more d.o.f., maybe either those yellow petals in the back need to be more in focus, or an off-camera flash to one side could fetch out the water droplets...
But this is a very nice example of urban stuff.

Wow, this is really lovely. I wouldn't have thought to focus on just part of this flower, but it worked really well.

An amazing array of color for one little flower! I like the sharp contrast of the purple and yellow together.
