 Day 1 of January Portrait Side challenge. I am going to be posting mostly candid types and more informal portraits this month. I hope to post at least 8 to 10 this month.

This is my wife Carol. We were having lunch with the kids at our favorite place in Woodstock VT. The light was good - all natural streaming through the window of the restaurant - and my wife seemed to glow in the light. This is probably my most favorite portrait I have taken of my wife ever...

Editing: Adjusted levels, curves, added a small amount of noise ninja for USM and smoothness. Converted to b/w using hue/saturation. I brought up the lightness of the reds and yellows and dropped the lightness of the other channels to improve the contrast. Minor cloning on skin in neck to smooth out a bit post conversion to b/w. USM post resize for web.

Very nice. The splash of light hitting her face is just the right amount. Love the contrasting tones.

Composition: I love that she is centered in this. It really makes her face command attention.

Lighting/Exposure: This side lighting is wonderful. Makes me want to use a window :)

Pose: N/A

Suggestions for Improvements: A slight crop at the top is my only suggestion. That bright light makes her hair/top of head look a little strange. :)

This portrait really moves me. I can get a sense of emotion out of it. Her face is saying, "What's that?" It's beautiful.

Neat photo - like the lighting. The very top middle however, the bright light distracts me. Maybe crop the top a bit?
