I took this picture in natural light in the patio. The base was a CD box, and used some white sheets of paper for background. Shot it from a distance of about 1 foot. Since the day was cloudy, I had to use a high ISO, to get the right exposure.

After taking the picture, I added some glow effects, and softening, to give the picture a effect of divinity.

This is Kari Ann, greetings from the Critique Club:

composition:
The elephant is sitting in the middle of the photo, sometimes this can add to the photo, but i feel here that its making it a little less interesting

color: The tones are very rich and reminiscent of Asia. The soft reds and deep yellows are beautiful

contrast: I think this has just enough contrast. im itching to say "more contrast!" but, the more i look at it, the serenity makes more sense as a softer image.

focus: The lack of total focus on one specific object in the frame is what distracts me most. But, looking at yospiff's comment, this may be due to the compression size. Either way, thats the part of the image I think should have been sharper. This is probably the reason most voted your image down

depth of field:
interesting depth of field here. I really like how out-of-focus the little rice grains are in the lower half of the image.

lighting: the lighting overall is nice, but the dark black streak on the left side of the frame really distracts the eye from the rest of the photo.

other: overall, this is an ok image. Though the focus and DOF are sub-par (that's probably what led to such a low score) the colors and subject help make up.
Keep trying, we all have to start somewhere, and I hope this analysis has helped you out some. If you were looking for something else, feel free to PM me with any questions you may have.

I like what you've put together, but the DOF is just a little to shallow to show off all the nice detail of this.

Something else about this clicked with me and I looked at the filesize of this image. There is a lack of sharpness to this photo and I think most of it is due to the use of excessive JPEG compression. Your file size of only 45k indicates a highly compressed image and that is what is robbing a lot of the detail and sharpness from this image. Check your compression settings when you save your file. Always adjust JPEG compression so that your file size is as large as possible, but within the challenge limit. (200k for this one)

Most image editors have the ability to adjust compression somewhere in the file save dialog. Here is how it works in Paintshop Pro, along with more explanation of compression, if is is of any help:
