Probably the most macabre image I've ever posted, apart from my last self-portrait. ;-Þ
This dead rat is in the old chicken coop in the back yard of my parents' place where I store my old books and stuff. I first noticed it in August 2007, and it hasn't changed much since then. It obviously got stuck between the wire and the corrugated iron wall, and died a death.
This is the available light version, with levels boosted up.

OK... Thought it was a zoo shot until I opened it up! Pretty sick. :)

Yuck. But rather amazing that it's stayed in this state.

Strikes a chord; recently cleaned out an inwall electric fan heater and found a completely dessicated and defurred mouse carcase - you can imagine the regret I felt cremating the remains in the woodstove instead of saving it. So I'm grateful for this shot.
ETA: it does very well on the chicken wire.

Macabre indeed, but there's some beauty in it. Must be on a dry place that it's stays this way.
