Taken near the national park for the sand dunes in Namibia. You can't really tell, but there's a huge canyon between me and the tree. That canyon separates the ground water, so during the dry season, one side of the canyon is barren and dry while the other side is relatively fertile and green (green for a desert, anyway). This is the "barren" side, but the year I visited (early 2008), they'd had more rainfall during the dry season than they'd had in over 100 years. There was literally 4-foot tall grasses in places where no living person had ever seen grass before. Pretty cool for the locals, not so cool for my research on that desert : )
