an experiment with lighting glass. white foamcore partially obscured by a square of cinefoil. i punched tiny holes in the foil and taped some slivers of colored gels over some of the openings. soft light on the foamcore to illuminate the glass (around the edges of the black foil, out of frame).

i added a heavily barn-doored speedlight on low power to kick up the colored stones in the collar.

in pp i just tweaked levels, clarity, vibrance/sat and noise reduction. cropped, sharpened and shipped it off.

Greetings from the Critique Club...

I was not able to vote on this challenge, but if I had, I probably would have given you a 5 or 6.

For the most part, I think this is a good image. The bokeh is really nice. I like the variety of colours in the bokey, and also how they overlap. I like the low angle you have chosen, especially since it leaves all that negative space up top for the bokeh. The focus looks pretty good as well. My only real criticism would be all the reflections in the glass. It's not so much the highlights, but the other areas of the reflection I find distracting. I have not shot glass before, so I can't offer any expertise on how to improve on this. Cool shot.

If you need any clarification on any of my comments, please feel free to pm me. It might take some time for me to get back to you.

reflections in the body need to be controlled

Maybe a different connection between the background and the cat was going to be great. Imagine milk dropping or something like that. He is a little OOF too, but you did good with the bokeh. I think we made the same mistake in this challenge. I know the circles of light are not necessary for bokeh, but i really thought it would be great with any object, but it's not. The cat in the photo doesn't have a connection to the circles of light, nice try though! Let's keep trying, hehe!

I hate photographing glass because it never looks in focus.

The overlapping bokeh in the background is interesting, but could do with being brighter to act as a halo around the subject.

I like all the overlapping circles in the bokeh.
