First attempt at 'studio' type work. I wanted bold image with an interesting focal point (the drip). I used a single light source to allow me to generate shadow behind the drip to make it stand out, previous attempts showed it was indistinct against the rope. I think the initial focus is on the centre of the lemon, and then the eye is drawn down to the drip. I let the lemon dry out a little before these photos to control reflections and keep it looking like a lemon.
I used a narrow aperture to get it all in focus, although the rope looks a little blurred because it's shiny nylon
I chose blue rope to counter the yellow in the lemon. The background was originally blue too, but seems to work better in black to allow the subject to stand out and suggest a void for the drip to fall into.
Compositionally, although the lemon is central, the rope is off to the left and the drip is low. I played around and preferred this version.
For processing I gave the image a slight boost to contrast and brightness, a slight crop and a small change to yellow/blue balance.
I don't think it'll score very highly although I'm actually quite pleased with it.
