I have just been away for a weekend on the Isle of Wight with My partner, her brother, sister in law and their 2 kids, her parents and her grandmother so an age range of 1 to about 88! I'm at the back on the left.

Shot in RAW but virtually no pp work.

Camera on tripod, timer to 10s so I could get in the photo!

I got asked to do a portrait on the beach, the light from the sun was a little harsh and I wanted a reasonable background so the sun is about 110 degrees to my right, ie I'm just slightly shooting towards the sun.

I would love any cc you can give, how I could have used the harsh sunlight better, positioning them (I just let them stand where they liked!) etc ....

I LOVE the little kids red boots on the right!! I used to have a pair like that & a red bucket that I would wear around the house when I was on my little tricycle thing (of course that was a LONG time ago! lol)
Really nice family shot I don't think the lighting turned out bad at all. I have a hard time fighting the sun too, not sure if you should have everyone squinting or everyone dark! I think you did a very nice job though.

I think the lighting worked out well and I really like the arrangement of characters. My only nitpick is the upper background, which seems kind of bright compared to your subjects, not that you could change it when shooting.

The casual poses work well hear. A good expression on everyone. Looks like a happy group on a happy outing. I see what you mean about the lighting. Not bad as is, but there might be a better way. I might try a wider aperture to take the background out of focus. The cliffs are beautiful, but the house on your head is a little distraction. Overall its a good shot, and I am first drawn to the happiness on the families faces.
