Post Challenge:
Thanks for all the great comments, though I would love to hear from the people who voted 1, 2 or 3 on this.

To get the shot, I hollowed out a potato with an apple corer and then drilled some holes in the back and sides to let the smoke escape. To create the smoke I used some of the big hurricane matches. When lit and stuffed inside they produce a lot of smoke for a short period of time.

The potato was lit from the right with a flash in an umbrella for main light and from the left with a flash through a shoot-through umbrella for fill.

Brilliant textures, the b&w makes them all the more interesting. Great idea overall.

Mr. Potato Head is now forced to abuse his health in the corner of the garage, cause Mrs. Potato Head is concerned over the potential to hurt their little spuds. Seriously, the mirrored surface, normally a great idea, doesn't help this image at all. Good choice of potato though, lotsa texture and good contrast.

There's a bit too much smoke for my taste, I don't believe potatoes can get that angry. Otherwise good.

There is so much detail in that potato, I had no clue it was one until I read the title, great detail in the smoke, too. Nice comp and reflection, 7.
