Technicals, Aesthetics, etc.. Thread

This image is wonderful, and I gave it a 7.

The choices you made here, what you saw and the composition, technicals are very well done. If one were to scrutinize it for additional post-processing options (if one wanted to do that), it might be worth a try at cloning out the distant tree line at the left, and it might be worth similar efforts on the bits of growth that reach the edge of the frame. (note the emphasis on might, :-)

Technically a very competent photograph. There's a serenity here despite the somewhat cluttered foreground. The reason it works is the foreground elements fit into the composition fairly well and help guide the eye into and around the photograph. For example, the remains of the fence/dock act as a pointer to the skiff, which leads you to the pond, which leads you to the weeds angling off to the left and upward toward the mountain range in the distance. It is by no means a perfect path, the tightness of the crop impedes it somewhat, but it's there and it makes all the elements in the photograph feel as if they belong.

Beautiful scene, strong technicals, great capture. Aesthetically I find the snow covered water to be too much negative space, in my opinion the image may have benefitted from a slightly lower camera angle bringing the horizon down to around the top 3rd so there is more background interest. A masked curves layer to bring some more contrast into the boat/pond and some of the foreground items might have made things pop a bit more. Had I voted in this challenge I would have given this image a 7.

Gunnar wow! I see your magic extends far beyond exotic African faces! :) I don't know what it is about canoes that make photography so darn beautiful, but this one in the snow covered lake is the best of the best!

I am not ready to see this!! The vastness of the snow-covered water is wonderful from this angle.

Beautiful scenery! I hope we get some snow in Scotland this Winter, thanks to global warming we've barely even had slush on the ground the past few years. I like the perspective on this, close enough to the boat and stile to get details but also showing off that impressive while landscape. Very attractive.

Great shot. I struggle with the overwhelming white of snow shots. I really like the balance you have with the dark water and boat.
