For my first DPC entry, I give you this.

Before you ask about the aperture, I used a lens reverse ring with my kit lens to get the close up macro. The lens will have physically been open to either F/3.5 or F/4 but I'm putting my EXIF reported data in the box.

In camera B/W preset used with maximum contrast and sharpness, small white pixel border added in Elements and re-sized to fit on DPC.

To create the lighting I turned off all the lights in my room, left my computer monitor on with a total white screen showing and used a small LED spotlight with tracing paper over it to get the softer light effect.

Nice job in your first challenge. I like the concept of the poker chip. Also the way the image is focused in the center and gradually fades out of focus adds a very nice touch.
