I love this image so much! Les's overlay works perfectly here (I've used it too, thanks Les!). I am so happy NOT to be in one of those suspended carriages, but you have done a great job of bringing back my memeories of being in such a ride as a kid and being petrified and loving it :-)

@mephisto - thank you for your comments! I assume it's for the same reason it's not used any more - money ! Who would pay for security?? The goverments don't take care of there people in the same way we are used to. There are millions of (what we consider)'hazards' that are everyday life. I think it's a shame it wasn't maintained..

gorgeous shot and perfect use of overlay!
interesting background story also, i wonder why they don't have any security around the park as it is run down...
abandoned ferries wheels are a great subject, here are two other examples:

How very cool that the place still has a life, even if not the one originally intended!

Thanks again for your lovely comments - I thought it was an eerie place until i went into it!! Years ago it was a free carnival for family and kids run by the Zanzibari gov't but now it's run down and there is no more funding. It's a shame - it was a great activity and positive experience for the local families - majority who are in a lower income and wouldn't have the money for activities like that. They live day to day in most cases. Anyway - saw it - new I had to shoot there and when I got my cast off (broken foot in Africa - HORRIBLE) I went back. Was so shocked and impressed because although it's overgrown and rusted and looks completely abandoned when you walk inside the gates there are tons of young kids (teens) sitting around in groups studying together for school!! Was quite sweet and not something you see there very often. Was quite humbling actually :)

This is really good! The color processing and the overlay give it a very eerie and almost threatening feel.
