Macro for the Time Challenged #9

Lake Superior beach stones. I'm trying to show a bit of the variety of stones found along the South shore of Lake Superior. These were at the edge of the water, and so were being splashed. The wet stones are all prettier than the dry ones, but the dry ones are quite nice too.

BTW, I have no idea what those two white spots are. They seem to be part of the stone, and not something stuck on it. The white markings on the two reddish sandstones are natural. Many of the sandstones are a combination of red and white sand. I don't know geology, so I don't know how they got that way.

These particular stones are not tiny pebbles, but could be held in the palm of your hand. We use them to edge the gardens and for door stops.

Note: after hajeka's comment, I used highlight/shadows to tone down the highlights. Please let me know if you think the light is still too bright.

I really love the colors of the rocks.....
I love beachcombing with my macro lens on my camera, but is is now getting much to hard to do, and that saddens me.

I love what damp/wet conditions can do to colors...really makes them pop. This is an interesting assortment of rocks and overall it's a nice comp. The contrast is a little strong and the bottom left shadow somewhat distracting with unfortunate corner placement which takes the viewer out of the frame.

These rocks do bring back memories as I grew up on Lake Michigan and gathered many collections of "pretty" rocks as a kid. :-)

I'm always intrigued by rocks at the beach. Many textures only come out when they're wet. Love this one.

It looks better to me now. Nice job! Can't remember the first one exactly, but the colors here are also very nice. Shadows are indeed very harsh, but that's always a problem with direct sunlight.

Maybe not as interesting as your previous entries Julianne but again you have managed to fill the frame with tone and texture something which you do so very well.

There are some harsh shadows in there as the previous commentor pointed out, but in a way this adds interest for me as it really enhances the deepness of the textures on some of the rougher stones.

I like all the shapes and patterns on the stones, but the light is very bright.
