Post: The steel frame in front of the rider is a bike rack supplied for the public in areas around town. The background are townhouses, the rider on the left is disappearing behind a tree, these are all elements of reality in a suburb.

Original:

I am amazed at the comments, here we have a challenge to show life in suburbia, and when you photograph an event that is happening at the time and do not have time to set up a studio shot with no elements in the foreground or you are unable to change the natural background representing suburbia, you get comments that say this does not do anything for me, or should have been taken from a different angle or what is that in the foreground, why don't we take all photos in a studio and set things up as the voters would like them, why do we photograph reality and then have a photo down voted because there are natural elements there that can't be changed.?????

Looks like a club ride - and as I know from experience, sometimes you deal with suburbia on club rides. :-) We'd generally head out (in cars) to the middle of nowhere in Texas to avoid the whole suburbia issue, though our biggest problem was with cars and their drivers, not the surroundings. And you know I agree 100% with you about the problems of photographing the way things really are and trying to get votes!

Nice selective desat, but the foreground is full of shrub, some strange black thing in the center and cuts off the bike wheels. None of the bikes/rider combinations can be seen fully. The background is also not interesting. This has potential but should have been shot from a different location.

Perhaps if you'd allowed his reflection to be non-desaturatede also, there would be something here for me: as it is, it feels like the only way you could isolate this subject, and even then you have the piece of bent metal in front of him. Hold very little for me, I'm afraid.

Not a fan of the composition or split tone. What is that very distracting black thing in the middle of the frame? Cropping the guy on the left is also very distracting.
