My subject was unaware, I was poiting my camera at her, so... no much for strategy on this one.

Beautiful light. This is a very nice photo from a technical stand point but it doesn't penatrate the surface enough to pull us into her world. pawdrix mention earlier about capturing something deeper and that is the key to good candid photography. What makes Steve's candid work very good is you always learn something about who he shoots even if it's just on a basic level that we can all relate to such as a moment of laughter, being down in the dumps, etc. Now he often shows us more and his subjects are often captured in greater context which allows for his images to pull us into the city he lives in and feel it's heart beat so to speak.

shalrath made an interesting comment about the young/old aspect to this. While I can see that on the surface it's too incidental to have a real impact. Here is an example where there is a real impact because although the subjects themselves are unaware of it there is a strong connection between the two:

Just something to think about when you're out shooting.

You made very good use of some lovely light here! One of the things I'll do (when I'm brave enough, that is) is hang out somewhere like this when I find light or a backdrop that I like. Then I just shoot a lot, hoping to catch a keeper or two.

Very pleasing en passant. Nice light and colour. I do think if you cropped out the woman behind (might have to dodge out the edge of her blue sweater) you would have a simply beautiful composition.

The lighting here is beautiful and her expression is mysterious. I think her hands help tell the story. I love the warm tones. Well captured!

The focus and light are right on. The color tones of the clothes
add to the soft and warm feeling here. But her anxious expression is
what captures my eye and makes me wonder why.

the uncertain look is quite well captured - i just wish there were a bit more context to the image - such as a bit of a different perspective to either have the woman in the background more of a subject or out all togetehr

I like the light in this shot - the shadows add much to the overall effect. I agree that the woman in the b/g is a distraction.

Very attractive capture, with lovely slanted lighting. The body language of the subject is quite appealing. The skirt really makes the photo for some reason, I like the color and you've captured the movement nicely. On the nitpick side, the woman in the background is a distraction (to me), and the overhead awning, though oof, nevertheless intrudes a bit as well.

Very nice. Good job getting a lit subject against the shaded background. It makes the subject stand out nicely. The one thing that's missing is a sense of who she is or what she's doing. Not sure how you'd accomplish that with this subject.

As others have said before, the light here is lovely.

Very nice, I think I would like to see a little more emphasis placed on the 'younger/older' element in this image, perhaps if you'd moved a step or two to the left to place these two opposing elements better in the frame. Otherwise, a pleasing image! Great start!

There are some nice elemenst to the shot. I myself, am trying to capture something that's more of a window to let the viewer see something deeper about the subjects. My first enrty is almost there but not quite.
