Timing is important, we are in between peak actions, one being the shot, the other being the save or goal. Work on timing and again try to get low to shoot. I still use a monopod, but its retracted as far as it will go, make sure when you can rotate to portrait and go tighter rather then crop a horizontal to go vertical.(nothing to do with this shot rather a random tip. :P)

Between the legs? Nice capture of the slapshot or wristshot. Good all around shoot of your first field hockey match Bob.
