Two of my three children have autism. My wife's brother has autism. This is a disease that has no known cause(s), no objective diagnosis, and no known cure. It is considered permanent and irreversible. Sensory differences are one of its major features, combined with severe communication impairment, severe social interaction impairment, obsessive compulsive disorder, movement differences, and the list goes on. Sometimes combines with seizures. Now for the good news - the rate of autism in the United States has gone from 1 in 10 000 in 1990 to about 1 in 150. (1 in 128 in Indiana, where we live).

This autism awareness ribbon is a magnet on the back of our van - original photo is: ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/75000-79999/77196/120/724987.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/75000-79999/77196/120/724987.jpg', '/') + 1) . '. In PP, adjusting levels to try to minimize the background (the van and its shadows & uneven surfaces - not to mention dust) basically reduced it to all black and made the colors really stand out. I take the comments that it looks like it was created in photoshop & not a picture as a compliment. But, seriously folks (and you know who you are) - my kids with autism are more flexible than some of you were on this one...
