The lighting highlight the chest more than it highlights the happy face, which seems to be the focus of the shot, according to the title. Maybe a different black and white conversion would have fixed that by lightening the happy face and darkening the skin.
Would this image be this strong without the 'nest'? Probably not. Clever choice, but not quite strong in my opinion. Also, I think I see a hand beneath the smiley token. It would have been nice to do without that.
